Nearly 500 people gathered on Friday April 19 for a white march in Romans-sur-Isère (Drôme), in tribute to Zakaria, a 15-year-old teenager killed by a knife on Tuesday April 9, during a fight in which he had intervened, reports France Bleu Drôme Ardèche. The march took place in the Monnaie district, where he was killed.
Participants wore white t-shirts with Zakaria’s photo. The walk was organized by neighborhood leaders, at the request of several young people and with the agreement of the family. The procession passed in front of the teenager’s home, before going to the scene of the murder. Zakaria’s father notably spoke on the microphone, while a book to leave a note for the family was made available on the market square.
Zakaria died during a fight between two teenagers. During the altercation, he intervened and was then stabbed to death. The main suspect is the older brother of the young man who came to fight, a 26-year-old man. He and the three other members of his family are indicted and have been placed in pre-trial detention.
