A massive population displacement. The United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) affirmed on Tuesday, May 14, that “nearly 450,000” people in Rafah had been displaced since Israel ordered the evacuation of part of this town in the southern Gaza Strip on May 6.
These “are exhausted, hungry and constantly afraid”, writes UNRWA on the social network X, without specifying where these displaced people have gone. Before the evacuation order, Rafah was home to 1.4 million people, according to the UN.
Since May 6, the Israeli army has ordered residents of several eastern neighborhoods of Rafah to evacuate, before beginning bombings and “targeted operations” on the ground. In the past 24 hours, at least 82 Palestinians have died in the Gaza Strip, bringing the death toll to 35,173, mostly civilians, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health. An unverifiable assessment from an independent source.
