Nearly 200,000 customers without electricity in Montreal

In the midst of a heat wave on Thursday, nearly 200,000 homes in Montreal are without power.

The triggering of a protection mechanism on one of the high voltage transmission lines is in question, said Hydro-Quebec. The cause of the triggering of the mechanism is not known at this time.

At 3:15 p.m. Thursday, 141 outages across the city deprived 199,469 customers of electricity, mainly in the West Island.

More details to come.
