The Calvados firefighters are confronted with several fires since the start of the week. This Monday, they fought against 27 fires in 24 hours. Since the beginning of July, 146 interventions for 110 hectares of vegetation, crops and brush that have gone up in smoke have been counted. Figures to which must be added the outings of this Tuesday, July 19, undoubtedly the most important of this beginning of summer in Calvados.
More than 80 hectares in one day
This Tuesday, the firefighters of the departmental fire and rescue service (SDIS) of Calvados are on several fronts, in particular on the plain of Caen and in the Pays d’Auge. Two particularly large fires are still ongoing. One in Victot-Ponfol, near Lisieux, attacked by 35 firefighters, where 20 hectares burned. The other in Condé-sur-Ifs, near Saint-Pierre-en-Auge, which mobilizes around sixty firefighters. 60 hectares of agricultural crops have already been destroyed. A civil security helicopter was dispatched to the scene to assist the firefighters in their fight.
All rescue centers in Calvados fought against a vegetation fire
The summer of 2022 will undoubtedly remain unprecedented for Calvados firefighters. Since July 1, the 46 rescue centers of the department all had to deal with at least one vegetation, crop or brush fire.
