The troops of two generals, who took power together a year and a half ago, clash in Khartoum and in several cities of the country. The inhabitants barricade themselves at home, while the bombardments are incessant. There would be 1,800 injured according to the UN.

Khartoum airport (Sudan) was bombed with heavy weapons on Monday, April 17. Planes are on fire. This is the third day of open war in the capital of Sudan. Airstrikes and constant fire from automatic weapons ring out. The Sudanese flee or hide in the basements. The population barricades itself because there are already 180 dead between civilians and soldiers. “I can’t leave the house, it’s very dangerous outside. The soldiers are everywhere and we don’t know who is who”describes an engineer living in Khartoum.

Two ex-allies go to war

The streets are deserted and delivered to a war between two men: the current army chief against the powerful leader of a group of mercenaries. In 2021, they make a coup together and prevent the transfer of power to civilians, despite the protests of thousands of Sudanese. Today, these former allies are at war. The two men both claim to have taken control of a strategic site.
