Shelling persists in the liberated area around Kharkiv in northern Ukraine. Our special envoys have met the last inhabitant of a deserted village.

It is a road on which you must not stop. The bombardments are intense. We are four kilometers from the gray zone, where Russian and Ukrainian soldiers are still fighting. The village of Ruska Lozova, very close to Kharkiv (Ukraine), is between the two camps. In this street, all the inhabitants have left, except one. Despite the danger, the man does not want to leave his house. Her family preferred to leave the war.

For more than 80 days, this resident has lived under the threat of bombs. “There is shelling from all sides. My hands are shaking”, he confides. His house has been bombed several times, there is no more water and the Russian soldiers are only a few kilometers away. Today, he survives thanks to the help of volunteers who take all the risks to bring water and food to people stranded in dangerous areas.
