Neanderthal fossils have taken over the National Museum of Prehistory, in Les Eyzies

1,800 pieces are permanently presented in the halls of the National Museum of Prehistory of Les Eyzies. Huge, right? Yes, although… 7 million pieces are still sleeping in the reserves, over more than 8 linear km… So why not resuscitate them? A collection of 902 anthropological casts awaits you, corresponding to more than a hundred human fossils. Pieces of exceptional heritage and scientific value.

The choice to present these Neanderthal casts was made to create a link with the exhibition “Neanderthal, a season in New Aquitaine” presented at the Prehistory Interpretation Center in Les Eyzies. Thus, beyond Shanidar (Iranian prehistoric site), there are also several Neanderthal casts from the South-West of France, but also from Italy, etc.

This presentation “Anthropological casts, the original interest of copies”, as part of the device “The museum comes out of its reserve”, is visible until September 19.
