NBA | Raptors’ Scottie Barnes up for Rookie of the Year

(New York) Toronto Raptors power forward Scottie Barnes is up for NBA Rookie of the Year.

Barnes joins Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons and Evan Mobley of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the list of finalists, announced Sunday.

In 74 games with the Raptors, the 20-year-old averaged 15.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.

Cunningham led in rookie points-per-game average with 17.4 while Mobley led the way in rebounds and blocked shots for rookies.

The three candidates are all from the top-4 of last year’s NBA Draft. Cunningham was picked No. 1 by the Pistons while Mobley and Barnes followed No. 3 respectively.and and 4and rung.

Among other categories announced on Sunday, Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic will be looking to claim the title of most valuable player to his team for a second straight year. To do this, he will have to beat the star of the 76ers of Philadelphia and the leading scorer of the season, Joel Embiid as well as Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks.

The winners of each category will be announced during the playoffs.
