NBA legend Kareem-Abdul Jabbar hospitalized after fall

(Los Angeles) Legendary American basketball player Kareem-Abdul Jabbar, 76, was hospitalized after falling during a concert and breaking his hip, according to a statement from his business partner Deborah Morales released Saturday.


Abdul-Jabbar is expected to undergo surgery on Saturday after “an accidental fall” while attending a concert in Los Angeles.

The iconic 2m18 player was a six-time NBA champion and six-time MVP during his 20 seasons in the North American basketball league.

He made his NBA debut in 1969 with the Milwaukee Bucks, whom he led in 1969 to their first NBA championship title. Traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in 1975, where he played alongside point guard Magic Johnson, he won five titles in the 1980s. He retired in 1989.

Kareem-Abdul Jabbar long held the NBA points record established in 1984. This legendary bar of 38,387 points was only surpassed in February 2023 by Lakers superstar LeBron James.
