NBA | Injured, Stephen Curry out for an indefinite period

(San Francisco) Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is out indefinitely with a left knee injury, the team announced Sunday.

In a statement, the Warriors said an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) confirmed that the four-time NBA champion “suffers from partial tears of the upper tibiofibular ligaments” in his left knee, as well as a tear in his the interosseous membrane and a contusion to the tibia.

Curry could be out of the field “several weeks”, according to media. For their part, the Warriors limited themselves to declaring that he “will not play the match (on Monday) and that details on his probable schedule will be given in the days to come”.

His left knee bent on Saturday in a collision with Dallas Mavericks player McKinley Wright in the third quarter of the game which was won by the Warriors.

The 34-year-old, who limped to the touchline, did not play the end of the game and had an MRI on Sunday.

“I think the bottom line is that he’s going to be out for a little while,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr told reporters, adding that the situation would be reassessed in a few days.

“The good news is that he will be back. We don’t know exactly when, but it’s not an injury that will prevent him from playing all season.

The injury almost certainly means Curry won’t make his ninth All-Star Game appearance on Feb. 20 in Cleveland, Ohio, for which he was selected.

The Warriors have five games remaining before the All-Star Break, before playing again on February 23 against the Lakers in Los Angeles.

The defending Golden State Warriors champion has missed 11 straight games this season due to a partial left shoulder dislocation in a mid-December game in Indianapolis.
