NBA | Draymond Green suspended 5 games for choking Rudy Gobert

(Los Angeles) Golden State Warriors power forward Draymond Green, expelled for a chokehold on Frenchman Rudy Gobert (Minnesota) Tuesday evening, has been suspended 5 games, the NBA announced Wednesday.

Green was suspended 5 games “for grabbing Minnesota center Rudy Gobert by the neck in a dangerous and unsportsmanlike manner,” and will not be able to play again until November 28.

“The length of the suspension is related in part to Green’s history of unsportsmanlike behavior,” the statement said.

Accustomed to bad gestures in his eleven years of NBA career, Green (33), quadruple NBA champion with the Warriors, had for example hit a teammate in training last year, or been expelled for having stepped on an opponent during 2023 playoffs.

Klay Thompson (Golden State) and Jaden McDaniels (Minnesota), at the origin of the scuffle and also excluded on Tuesday, were fined $25,000, like Gobert for grabbing Thompson, trying to “separate the two men”, as the referees wrote after the game.

Gobert denounced after the match a “deliberate attack” and “unacceptable behavior”.
