NBA | 76ers fire head coach Doc Rivers

(Philadelphia) The 76ers of Philadelphia fired head coach Doc Rivers on Tuesday after a third straight second-round elimination from the NBA playoffs.




That’s what The Associated Press learned from a source with direct knowledge of the decision. This source spoke on condition of anonymity because the team’s management had not yet confirmed the information.

Rivers led the 76ers to a second campaign in a row of at least 50 victories thanks, among other things, to the contribution of Joel Embiid, named the most valuable player in the league. However, he was unable to guide his troops to the Eastern Conference Finals.

The 76ers held a 3-2 lead in their semi-final series against the Boston Celtics. However, they lost the sixth game at home, before being crushed in the decisive meeting, in the castle of the Celtics.

Rivers is 6-10 in Game 7 of the playoffs. No other head coach in the NBA has lost more than five decisive games.
