Robert and Carmen Geiss, stars of RTLzwei’s ‘The Geissens,’ share insights about their life of luxury, family dynamics, and managing fame. Their daughters, Davina and Shania, are also carving their paths in fashion and jewelry. The family discusses their comfort with constant media presence, handling criticism, and the importance of communication in their long-standing marriage. While they enjoy their private life in Monaco, they occasionally engage with other celebrities, navigating challenges together with humor and understanding.
For the Geissens, a life of luxury and travel has become second nature. Robert, aged 60, and Carmen, 59, have worked diligently to achieve their success, which they proudly display on their reality show, ‘The Geissens,’ airing on RTLzwei. Their two daughters, Davina, 21, and Shania, 20, have followed in their footsteps, establishing their own ventures in fashion and jewelry at an impressively young age.
The Geissens Open Up: Life Behind the Cameras
Do you still feel nervous with cameras constantly following you?
Robert Geiss: We’ve grown accustomed to the presence of cameras and the crew after 13 years of our show on RTL ZWEI. They have become part of our family.
Shania Geiss: After 14 years, it’s simply a normal part of our everyday life.
Shania Geiss: For us, it’s completely routine. We wake up every day, whether we’re feeling good or not, and the cameras are just there with us (laughs).
Robert Geiss: Depending on the mood, we either film or we don’t.
How do you deal with criticism in the spotlight?
Carmen Geiss: I can handle criticism just fine.
Robert Geiss: I choose not to read it, so the opinions of haters don’t affect me at all.
Davina Geiss: I’m not concerned about what others think or say. I also avoid reading comments. While I won’t tolerate hate, I recognize that it usually comes from envious individuals. Mom has helped us understand that we shouldn’t let negativity bring us down.
Carmen Geiss: Navigating Fame and Friendships
Do you discuss these challenges with other famous friends?
Carmen Geiss: We don’t really know many famous people (laughs). We typically keep to ourselves.
Robert Geiss: Sure, we know a few. I have a regular spot in Monaco where I meet tennis players, football stars, and Formula 1 drivers, and we occasionally chat about these topics. However, everyone has their own way of handling things.
Carmen Geiss: As I mentioned, I don’t know many. We’ve been living in Monaco for over 30 years, not in Germany.
Robert Geiss: Carmen doesn’t have a regular spot like I do (laughs).
Carmen Geiss: I do receive plenty of invitations, but I would have to leave my husband alone for 24 hours, which we’re just not used to. So, I often decline.
Managing Disagreements in Their Marriage
Is it because you can’t bear to be apart?
Carmen Geiss: Because he can’t manage without me (laughs). I have to turn down many invitations. Otherwise, I might have had the chance to meet many other famous women.
Robert Geiss: Without Carmen, I miss the organizational skills she brings to my life.
You seem to have a very harmonious relationship. When do you actually disagree?
Robert Geiss: Generally, we maintain harmony, but there are times when things can get a bit heated, especially if someone wakes up on the wrong side of the bed. I often suggest we lie back down and try waking up again.
Carmen Geiss: We’ve been married for 30 years for a reason. It’s not always sunshine and rainbows; sometimes it rains too. We discuss our differences openly, and then everything is sorted out. Afterward, we might play backgammon. Our viewers have been enjoying these moments every Monday evening for over 13 years on our channel, RTL ZWEI.
