(Ottawa) The leader of the NATO alliance is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Ottawa on Wednesday.
Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is also expected to deliver a speech at an event organized by the Canadian NATO Association in the evening.
His last visit to Canada was in August 2022, when he and Mr. Trudeau spent time in the Arctic.
The region is the highlight of Canada’s new defense strategy, released earlier this spring, and is seen as being of growing importance to NATO since Sweden and Finland joined the alliance.
NATO leaders will gather in Washington next month for an annual summit marking the 75e anniversary of the alliance.
Last year’s summit focused heavily on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a topic that is also expected to dominate discussions this year.
