NATO pledges €40 billion in aid to kyiv “for the coming year”

Meeting in Washington, the 32 countries of the Alliance have multiplied the pledges of reinforced support for Ukraine.

Reaffirmed support for kyiv. NATO countries decided on Wednesday, July 10, that their military aid to Ukraine would reach at least 40 billion euros. “for the coming year”according to the text of their joint declaration. “We intend to release a basic envelope of at least 40 billion euros for the coming year, and then maintain security assistance at a sustainable level, so that Ukraine wins.”specified the 32 NATO countries, meeting at a summit in Washington.

Even before the official opening of their meeting, several NATO countries announced that they had begun transferring F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. These aircraft “bring closer to a just and lasting peace”welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who was present in the American capital. The F-16s, from Denmark and the Netherlands, “will fly in the Ukrainian sky this summer”assured the American Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.

The US president confirmed on Tuesday evening that the allies would also provide Ukraine with a total of five additional air defense systems, including four Patriot batteries, surface-to-air missiles that are particularly effective in intercepting Russian ballistic missiles. Germany, the Netherlands, Romania and Italy are also expected to contribute.

NATO leaders also expressed their “deep concerns” in the face of the rapprochement between Russia and China, and denounce Beijing’s support for the Russian war effort in Ukraine. “The deepening strategic partnership between Russia and China, as well as their combined attempts to destabilize and reshape the rules-based international order, raise deep concerns.”they said.
