NATO chief calls on Europeans to increase arms production and prevent confrontation with Moscow

The NATO Secretary General calls on Europeans to increase their arms production to increase deliveries to Ukraine. In an interview published on Saturday February 10 in the German Sunday newspaper World am Sonntag, Jens Stoltenberg advocated preparation for a confrontation with Moscow “which could last for decades.”

“We need to replenish and develop our industrial base more quickly, in order to increase deliveries to Ukraine and replenish our own stocks”he warned, less than a week before the meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels, on February 15 and 16.

Shift to “rapid conflict production”

Stressing that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine almost two years ago showed that “peace in Europe was not acquired”, he insisted on the importance of protecting the countries of the Alliance. “As long as we invest in our security and remain united, we will continue to deter aggression,” he said.

The situation in Ukraine means that it “we must move from slow production in times of peace to rapid production in times of conflict”added the NATO Secretary General, specifying that“there is no imminent military threat against an ally”, “The Kremlin regularly makes threats against NATO countries.”
