National Swim Trials | Another world record for Summer McIntosh

It just keeps going well for Summer McIntosh at the National Trials in Toronto. The 16-year-old prodigy eclipsed another world mark on Saturday night, this time in the 400-meter medley event.

She touched the low wall, stopping the clock at 4:25.87. She broke the previous record by almost half a second. The mark of 4:26.36 was recorded by Katinka Hosszu in 2016.

“It was the first time I really heard the crowd during my run,” said McIntosh, who waved to the crowd after exiting the pool.

It’s amazing to have all my family and friends in the stands cheering me on. It really helped me in the last 100 meters.

Heading into Saturday night, McIntosh’s best result in the event was 4:28.61.

It is therefore a second world record for the Canadian at the Trials. Tuesday evening, she made history in the 400 meter freestyle event.

McIntosh has been wowing the gallery since the start of the competition, at home. In addition to her two world records, she also set junior world records in the 200m medley and 200m butterfly events.
