National Road Safety Operation

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) is carrying out a national road safety operation throughout its territory on Tuesday, the objective of which is to raise public awareness of risky behavior.

As part of this operation, the police will “intervene on problematic behavior in order to make drivers aware of their involvement and responsibility in improving the road safety record and to increase the feeling of safety on the entire road network”.

The SQ is particularly concerned about the “over-representation” of certain vulnerable user groups in the collision report in recent weeks.

“The deaths of six motorcyclists since the start of this season require concrete and immediate actions,” argues the provincial police force.

Another aspect that the SQ intends to monitor is the wearing of seat belts. She recalls that in 2023, nearly 20% of victims who died in a road accident were not wearing their seat belt.

In addition to the SQ, 28 municipal police forces are participating in this national operation. The Fédération des motocyclistes du Québec and the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec will also take the opportunity to raise awareness.
