A final tribute to Guy Lafleur will take place on Tuesday morning with the celebration of his funeral at Marie-Reine-du-Monde Cathedral in Montreal.
Lafleur died on April 22 of lung cancer, at the age of 70. The native of Thurso, in the Outaouais, played 17 seasons in the NHL, including 14 with the Canadiens, becoming the leading scorer in the history of the Montreal team.
He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1988 and his number 10 was retired by the Canadiens.
Tens of thousands of people gathered in front of his coffin over the past two days, when the Bell Center was transformed into a burning chapel.
During the many tributes to Lafleur since his death, his great generosity and availability have often been mentioned. Mr. Lafleur was notably involved with the Fondation du CHUM.
Guy Lafleur is survived by his wife, Lise, his sons, Martin and Mark, his mother, Pierrette Lafleur, his granddaughter, Sienna-Rose, as well as his sisters, Lise, Gisèle, Suzanne and Lucie.
