(Ottawa) Several rallies are planned for Saturday across the country to mark the third National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
This federal holiday recognizes the legacy of the residential school system in Canada and the harm it caused to Indigenous people.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is scheduled to take part in an awareness walk and local community activities in northern Saskatchewan with survivors and leaders.
In Montreal, a rally and march will begin at 1 p.m. at Jeanne-Mance Park. The event is organized by the Shelter for Native Women of Montreal and Résilience Montréal. It will highlight the struggles for justice and dignity in Indigenous communities.
In the federal capital, residential school survivors and Indigenous leaders will participate in a memorial ceremony on Parliament Hill starting at noon.
Rallies will also take place in Victoria, Winnipeg and Toronto.
