A nature getaway turned tragic on Sunday: a 12-year-old boy fell into the Jacques-Cartier River, in the rural region of Pont-Rouge, near Quebec City, finding a tragic death.

The young man was on the edge of the river which, at this point, is bordered by cliffs, in the company of relatives. He then fell and found himself in the river, according to information from Stéphane Tremblay, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec. One of the people present rescued him from the icy waves. The boy was later evacuated by firefighters and taken to hospital.
“Resuscitation maneuvers were carried out throughout the journey, but the death was unfortunately confirmed at the hospital”, indicated to The Press Stephane Tremblay.
The incident happened around 3:45 p.m. Sunday. Investigators from the forensic identification service of the Sûreté du Québec will go to the scene. An investigation will be opened to establish the circumstances surrounding the event. It is a priori an accidental fall.
