Many people had an unpleasant surprise Thursday morning when they found that their pay had not been deposited into their bank account as usual. It is a technical problem at the National Bank which is at the origin of this problem. At the end of the day Thursday, its teams continued to work to resolve the remaining files.
“Due to a technical issue, certain electronic transactions such as deposits [de] salaries could not be processed within the usual deadlines,” confirmed the National Bank to The Press. Online banking and Interac e-Transfers were not affected by this issue.
A few hundred employers were affected. “This number is decreasing by the hour. Our teams are mobilized to resolve the situation as quickly as possible. We are aware of the impacts caused by a delay in the deposit of a salary and are sorry for the inconvenience caused by this situation,” declared the National Bank Thursday morning.
At the end of the afternoon, it indicated that the situation was resolved “for a very large number of companies initially affected by the incident”. Teams continued to work to resolve the remaining cases.
Discretion on social networks
The financial institution has been discreet about the problem on social media and on its website. She has not published anything about it either on Facebook or on X, despite the comments left by many Internet users. She simply gave a few responses in comments.
This silence shocked some customers, who found themselves inundated with calls from their employees who had not received their pay. “Let’s just say that for new workers, it doesn’t make us look good. There was no message displayed on the National Bank website indicating that it is they who have a problem, and not their customers,” deplores Christine Lamarre, CEO of Services and healthcare organization, a placement agency based in Quebec.
Healthcare workers affected
Many healthcare workers have been affected by the issue. “We would like to inform you that a technical anomaly occurred yesterday, Wednesday October 2, 2024, at our banking partner, the National Bank of Canada (NBC), which resulted in a delay in the processing of deposits to be paid to employees, on this Thursday, October 3,” noted the payroll department of the University of Montreal Hospital Center, in a note to employees relayed on Facebook by the union.
“The BNC confirms that it has resolved the problem and that the deposits will be processed by the various financial institutions during the day [du jeudi 3 octobre] », We can read in this note.
