National Assembly | Voting by roll call is replaced by electronic voting

(Quebec) The National Assembly will put an end to the tradition of voting by roll call as soon as Parliament returns on Tuesday.

An electronic voting system was in fact installed, following an agreement between the different parties, according to what the Assembly announced in a press release.

This means that we will no longer see at the Salon Bleu the scene during which each deputy is called by a page by their title and stands up to record their vote for, against, or their abstention, on motions or drafts of law at different stages of the legislative process.

Instead, each elected official will activate a box which will make their vote appear on a board in real time in the Blue Room. But be careful: MPs must be on site, no virtual voting.

In an interview with The Canadian Press, the spokesperson for the Assembly, Béatrice Zacharie, assured however that it will still be possible to know how each member voted on each vote, by consulting the website of the ‘National Assembly.
