On the set of 23h de franceinfo, Edwige Diaz, deputy National Rally (RN), explains the reasons why the far-right party now occupies a central place on the democratic spectrum.

Marine Le Pen has always said that she wanted the RN group to represent a responsible opposition. After these long debates on purchasing power, Edwige Diaz, National Rally deputy for the 11th constituency of Gironde, says she is satisfied. “We have shown our voters that they did well to trust us and to have given us a powerful group of 89 deputies in the National Assembly. We are showing the voters who did not vote for us that we represent them, that we carry their desires, often in the face of a government that locks itself into sectarianism”she considers.

Nevertheless, despite the numerical importance of the RN, it is more the Republicans who have been the kingmakers, on fuel prices in particular. “LR, with regard to the increase in pensions to the tune of 500 million euros, betrayed their voters. (…) But the National Rally was very useful. If Marine Le Pen had not spoken so much of purchasing power during the presidential campaign, we wouldn’t be voting on measures in favor of purchasing power at the moment. If she hadn’t put her finger on the insecurity plaguing France, Mr. Darmanin would not have presented us with a bill aimed at toughening our security and immigration measures”insists Edwige Diaz.

Caroline Colombier, RN deputy for Charente, joined the parliamentary intelligence delegation. Frank Giletti is rapporteur for the Air Force budget. Bruno Bilde is at the Court of Justice of the Republic. Strategic positions that bring the National Rally, originally anti-system, into line. “At the time, we were a protest party, then we became an opposition party and today we have become a very institutionalized party. The responsibilities that have been entrusted to deputies from the National Rally show that we intend govern France from 2027”she points out.
