National Assembly condemns repression in Iran

The elected members of the National Assembly adopted a unanimous motion on Friday aimed at castigating the “violent repression” of the demonstrations in Iran and to support the women of the country, who are taking part in a “genuine feminist revolution”. “Iranian women are writing the history of the world before our eyes,” said Ruba Ghazal, a Solidarity MP for Mercier, at the Blue Salon. The elected official, of Palestinian origin, said that the protests challenged her in her “heart” and her “flesh”. The motion calls for the withdrawal of the Republic
Islamic Republic of Iran of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, asks the Iranian authorities “to cooperate fully with the independent international commission of inquiry” and affirms the “full solidarity” of the National Assembly with the members of the Iranian diaspora in Quebec.
