“We have no state subsidies, we have 0 euros from the government, it’s a scandal”Loïc Dombreval, president of the National Council for Animal Protection, an association that created a single number, 3677, to report all cases of animal abuse, launched in June 2024, gets carried away on France Bleu on Wednesday August 28.
Since the launch, “It’s going very well, but it’s very complicated”reports the former MP and veterinarian. “We have a lot of calls that allow us to save animals”he explains, with nearly 5,000 calls in July and 4,000 in August, for “about thirty” rescues in the end, mainly dogs beaten or forgotten in cars in the full sun.
“We could save many more animal lives with more people answering phone calls”he regrets. “We are faced with a financial problem, because they are not volunteers, and so we have to make choices and select the most urgent cases.”explains the veterinarian.
So he launches a “distress call” to “companies, individuals, businesses, patrons”. “I beg them to help us”he says. “We have no state subsidies, we have 0 euros from the government, it’s a scandal”says the former LREM MP for the Alpes-Maritimes. “We may call ourselves the National Council for Animal Protection, but we do not depend on the State; we are an association under the 1901 law like any other.”he recalls. “We make life easier for the gendarmes, police officers and associations who want it and we don’t have a penny”he laments.
