Former Deputy Premier of Quebec, Nathalie Normandeau, is demanding $ 2.5 million from the Attorney General of Quebec (AGQ) in compensation for the charges against her in March 2016.
“I will have to learn to live with these accusations which mortgaged nearly five years of my life. The damages were numerous and for this reason, I am claiming a sum of $ 2.5 million from the PGQ, ”said Ms. Normandeau, in a press release published on Monday.
Mme Normandeau filed an action on October 22. Following his request, the court accepted that the request remain under seal for a period of 30 days. The order ended at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
“These accusations were the result of faulty investigations and were rather motivated to promote the renewal of the mandate of Commissioner Robert Lafrenière and the creation of UPAC as an independent police force,” said Ms. Normandeau.
In March 2016, former Deputy Prime Minister Nathalie Normandeau was arrested by the Permanent Anti-Corruption Unit (UPAC). She had been accused of corruption, fraud and breach of trust in political financing.
Four and a half years after their arrest, the Court of Quebec ordered on September 25, 2020 a stay of proceedings against Nathalie Normandeau and five co-defendants because of unreasonable delays and police misconduct.
