Wednesday March 2, Jean-Pierre Pernaut died at the age of 71. The journalist was suffering from lung cancer. A disease that he had made public and against which he had been fighting for many months.
Hundreds of thousands of tributes have flourished on social networks and on TV sets. Everyone was waiting for the reaction of Nathalie Marquay-Pernaut. First of all, the ex-Miss France posted a black square on instagram.
“Do you realize the day you are going to die, darling?”
This Thursday, March 3, Lou and Tom’s mother confided in the 8 p.m. newspaper with emotion. TF1. A moving interview in which she spoke of her husband. “He was always strong. He always fought for his family. He wanted to never let go”she began by saying with tears in her eyes. “He was not retired after all. He was a workaholic. He was always worried about the TF1 family. He always wanted it to be done well: ‘I would have done it like that “Yes, he was tired. How many times, I yelled at him, because I said: ‘You have to rest. The doctors tell you that you have to rest’. Already when there was his prostate cancer, I told him: ‘It’s a sign from up there, you need to rest! Your body is tired'”.
And if JPP kept this desire and this motivation to continue working, it was for a good reason.
“He always wanted more, so that the family would be well, so that it lacked nothing. That’s why he didn’t really want to retire at the start. But I say: ‘Yes, but I want, I want you to take advantage of us, the children are grown up, I want us both to travel too, no need to wait for the school holidays. . Making an old couple, like everyone else. But Jean-Pierre is not like everyone else”.
But difficult to hang up for the journalist to ignore his years TF1. “You realize that, every day, he asked for the audience. Every day, every day. All these years at TF1, he worried about the audience”she continued before sharing a conversation he had had at the time of the funeral of Johnny Hallyday that JPP had covered for seven hours.
“When he got home. I’m like, ‘Do you realize the day you’re going to die, darling?’ I said: ‘Do you realize, it’s going to be boring for me, because it’s not going to be unbearable to manage.’ He said to me: ‘But, no, don’t worry, as I won’t be TF1, everyone will forget me. (…) Well there you go, darling, you see, if you can hear me. People still love him, people are still loyal. I wanted to thank all of his audience. ..”
