“I have been warning for a long time. What we have learned over the past few days is both a shock and not a surprise because we know that Russia is trying to influence European deputies. The shock is to learn that certain deputies would have given in to Russia, not out of conviction but because they were corrupt”, reacted on Saturday March 30 on franceinfo Nathalie Loiseau, Renaissance MEP and president of the subcommittee “security and defense” of the European Parliament.

Nathalie Loiseau denounces “the European extreme right” some representatives of which in the European Parliament are suspected of having received money from Russia as part of a network of influence.

“Voters must know if they are voting for parties with integrity”

On Wednesday March 27, Czech intelligence services announced the dismantling of a network financed by Moscow, which spread pro-Russian propaganda about Ukraine via the site Voice of Europe, and extended its influence “to the European Parliament”.

“My group has asked for an investigation to find out what is happening, we are a few weeks before the European elections, voters must know whether they are voting for parties with integrity which protect the interests of the French and Europeans or sold parties to Russia”, insisted MEP Renew.

“For decades Russia has invested in attempting to manipulate our opinions”

“What we are learning with this scandal around the Voice of Europe site is that a certain number of European parliamentarians went there to echo Russian propaganda and that some were allegedly paid to do so. VS“The parliamentarians who were interviewed by Voice of Europe all belong to the European far right”, noted Nathalie Loiseau.

According to Nathalie Loiseau, “For decades, Russia has been investing in attempting to manipulate our opinions and this involves disinformation on social networks, there are also attempts to approach politicians to influence them, corrupt them to make them propagandists of Russia”, she detailed.
