It is one of the little nuggets of white Périgord, a surprising place that only the Dordogne can offer: the Napoléon de la Pommerie museum in Cendrieux. Frederic Lemont is editor-in-chief of the Magazine l’Edition Périgord:
This Museum is located in a magnificent residence belonging to Count Baudoin de Witt, a descendant of the younger brother of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. It is often the count who visits you to discover the treasures of family heirlooms on display in the galleries.
The first part of the visit focuses on objects related to Napoleon, often created after his death. But the second part, in the castle, is undoubtedly the most touching for lovers of Napoleon. More than 500 objects, paintings and sculptures, including 150 listed as Historic Monuments, are on display. Some objects are quite moving, like those that Napoleon had in his room at Saint Helena. You will discover his watch which is stopped at the time of the last breath or even a candle extinguished at the same time without forgetting the moving lock of hair of his adored son, Napoléon François Joseph Charles Bonaparte.
