We had to wait for the penalty shootout to know the winner of this second Coupe de France semi-final. It was finally FC Nantes who won in front of their supporters against AS Monaco (2-2, 4 pens to 2), Wednesday March 2. The Canaries therefore join OGC Nice in the final, winner of Versailles on Tuesday.
The two French internationals, Wissam Ben Yedder and Aurélien Tchouaméni, both failed to miss their penalty against Rémy Descamps. Moses Simon delivered his own after a faultless performance by Antoine Kombouaré’s men during this session.
This semi-final between two residents of Ligue 1 was marked by intense phases of play, especially in the first half. The goals of Guillermo Maripan (11th minute) then of Djibril Sidibé (against his camp, in the 21st), but also many actions have thus thrilled the supporters of the two clubs.
The second part of the match turned out to be much calmer, like on a false rhythm. In the 74th minute of play, Samuel Moutoussamy’s 2-1 goal suggested that Nantes had done the hardest part… for a minute. While La Beaujoire let his joy explode, Myron Boadu came to cool the ardor of the Canaries by equalizing (2-2).
In the last quarter of an hour, Nantes like Monegasques tried to surprise the opponent, in vain. The Canaries and the players of the Principality therefore had to decide face to face with the opposing goalkeeper. And in this game, it was the people of Nantes who emerged victorious.
If the Canaries can thank their goalkeeper, we must not forget the performance of striker Randal Kolo Muani. The French international hopeful has burst the screen. At the origin of the goal against his side of Sidibé, he will have caused Caio Henrique and Maripan to suffer, less lively and lost in the face of the technical gestures and the speed of the Nantes number 23.
The future Frankfurt player continues his momentum as he achieves a very high level season, with nine goals and two assists in Ligue 1. He had already played a key role in the quarter-final of the Coupe de France against Bastia by scoring the second goal (2-0). He will have the opportunity to leave Nantes by offering supporters a Coupe de France, 22 years after the one against Calais.
