More than 100,000 Armenians have fled Nagorno-Karabakh since Azerbaijan’s lightning offensive on September 10-20. The exodus began spontaneously as soon as the border with Armenia opened, facilitating what looks like ethnic cleansing. The authorities have of install a reception center to relieve congestion in the border town of Goris (Armenia). During the weekend of September 30, nearly 90% of the population fled the enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh.

“I’m afraid they will massacre us”

They all talk about the terror inspired by the Azerbaijanis whom they call “the Turks”. “How can we live with the Turks when we remember that we lost our sons, our heroes?”, asks a refugee. “Of course I’m scared. I can’t sleep at night. How long can you live with fear? (…) I’m afraid they’ll massacre us.”confides a refugee. The President of Azerbaijan reaffirmed his desire to connect his country to Turkey by a corridor which necessarily passes by Armenia.
