The ikastola are schools in the Basque language that offer an immersive and participatory education system: up to CP, children speak only Basque, the other languages being integrated into lessons from CE1.
For more than 50 years, the work carried out by the ikastola, which has enabled thousands of children to learn Basque, is irreplaceable, based on the commitment of families, students and educational teams.
Every year, ikastola festivals are organized throughout the Basque Country:
- Herri Urrats, always in Saint Pée sur Nivelle, the first Sunday of May
- Ibilaldia, in Biscay, the last Sunday of May
- Araba Euskaraz, in Araba, the 3rd Sunday of June
- Kilometroak, in Gipuzkoa, the first Sunday of October
- Nafarroa Oinez, in Navarre, on the 3rd Sunday of October
“Erdian Erein”, a song full of symbols
For the 2022 edition, Nafarroa Oinez invites us to meet in Tafalla, south of Pamplona, on Sunday October 16.
This celebration, like the others in favor of the ikastola, brings together tens of thousands of people, who support the Basque language and the ikastola, by participating in the event.
For each edition a song is created, and for “Erdian Erein” Navarrese musicians have recorded the title.
Erdian, in the middle, recalls the geographical position of Tafalla in the heart of Navarre, and the half-centenary of existence of the city’s ikastola.
Erein is to sow, a deliberate, thoughtful action, small seeds – Ezkurtxo, the acorn, is the logo of the festival this year – which will bear beautiful fruit.
