Canada Post is granting its employees permission to wear N95 masks at work, provided they wear a procedure mask provided by the employer.
The federal Crown corporation has issued health guidelines to its employees which also provide for the distribution of millions of better quality procedure masks.
Some postal workers, particularly those who work in tandem, are among those to whom N95 masks will be issued, but before using them they will need to have undergone a fit test by a trained professional.
Other staff who want to wear their own N95 mask will need to add a procedure mask provided by Canada Post.
Last week, the state-owned company came under fire for refusing employees to bring their own N95 masks to work. She specified that the workers had to wear the masks that she would provide them, otherwise, they would be sent home.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers responded that N95 masks offered superior protection against the highly contagious Omicron variant of COVID-19 compared to disposable procedural masks.
