At the beginning of April 2022, several dozen hunting towers were destroyed in Calvados. The action has still not been claimed and the gendarmerie is investigating.

Dozens of hunting towers have been damaged in Calvados, cut with an electric saw. These raised firing posts used by hunters were destroyed at the beginning of April, in a tense context. “Sometimes walkers call us murderers, insult us”, describes Jacky Rivière, assistant to the Saint-André wood hunting tenant. Cops are investigating the case. Environmental activists, incivility, settling of scores between hunters… No track is ruled out.

“Sometimes there are little quarrels between hunters, but it always works out. Going to this kind of movement, I can’t understand”, deplores Sylvie Grenier, mayor of La Hoguette (Calvados). Watchtowers had already been vandalized in the Var, in August 2021, with anti-hunter inscriptions. In August 2018, in the Rhône, a similar act was claimed by an animal rights collective. In Calvados, the mystery remains intact.
