Mysterious UFOs in the Sherbrooke region last winter

Mysterious lights appeared in the skies over Sherbrooke last winter and were seen by pilots of several airliners, shows a Transport Canada incident report unearthed by CTV News Friday.

“Several aircraft reported seeing two or three really strange lights in the sky, high above the flight paths,” it is described in the report on the event that occurred on the evening of February 12, 2023.

The lights remained visible for half an hour and moved erratically at an altitude of 50,000 to 60,000 feet, a height much higher than airliners which typically hover at 30,000 to 40,000 feet.

At least three pilots reported seeing the lights, it said.

“The distance is hard to say, but we are 35,000 [pieds]so there must be, at least, I don’t know, 50 or 60,000. And they seem to be moving,” described a crew member of a CargoLux Italia flight connecting Chicago to Luxembourg.

The witness, in communication with the control tower, added that the lights were bright and white. “It’s like it’s a satellite, but it’s moving way too fast […] In fact, it moves at a normal speed, but for a satellite, it is much too fast,” he said, adding that the glow diminishes and returns occasionally.

The controller informed the cargo crew that they were not the only ones to have seen the unidentified flying objects (UFOs). “So, I guess we’re not dreaming, huh,” laughed the person on board the CargoLux flight.

In total, CTV News found 17 UFO reports in Transport Canada incident reports for the year 2023.

According to data compiled annually by Canadian ufologist Chris Rutkowski on his blog, Quebecers are particularly renowned for their large number of UFO sightings. In 2022, 768 sightings had been reported in Canada, including 29% in Quebec, followed by 28% in Ontario.
