Myers Manx 2.0: the famous dune-buggy reborn 100% electric

Meyers Manx, the famous Californian dune-buggy manufacturer, unveiled the first images of its new electric vehicle on Monday evening. Dubbed the Meyers Manx 2.0, it will be officially unveiled next week at the prestigious The Quail event in Carmel, California.

If the dune-buggy of yesteryear borrowed the chassis and mechanics of the legendary Volkswagen Beetle, the approach is quite different for this new creation. Indeed, it will use an aluminum monocoque chassis. It will benefit from independent suspensions, disc brakes on all four corners and will also be equipped with electrically assisted steering.

Meyers Manx, whose rights were bought from the founder a year before his death by Phillip Sarofim, intends to offer two sizes of batteries (20 and 40 kWh). By opting for the one with the largest capacity, you will enjoy power and torque estimated at 202 horsepower and 240 lb-ft. Two electric motors will deliver everything to each of the rear wheels. As for autonomy, it is estimated at 483 kilometers and would be cut in half with the smaller capacity battery.

The price range of this new RV has not been disclosed. The official delivery should begin in 2023. The first 50 copies will be sent to consumers who will accept to be, in a way, guinea pigs while there will remain details to be fine-tuned.
