Hello Mr. Drainville,
I am writing to tell you that my heart goes out to the teachers. I didn’t know what to do to assure them of my support and so I decided to write to you.
Quebec’s education system is adrift and I believe the situation must be urgently corrected. It’s not a question of how much it will cost, because it seems clear to me that the price to pay will be just as great and even greater if we as a society do nothing. An educated society is synonymous with better collective health, both mental and physical, a lower crime rate, and better development opportunities, both civil and institutional. The first thing the government should focus on is education. Everything else will follow and cost less.
Quebec teachers and all students live in a system that has been let go. The buildings are greatly neglected. There is a lack of material and human resources. The students are not sufficiently supervised. Too many Quebecers rely on the private sector and this is unacceptable.
Public schools must become a source of pride for our nation. Everything should revolve around school. Schools should all be the most beautiful buildings in a municipality. They should be a true community resource and be at the cutting edge of technology.
Teachers need support and recognition from you, not an additional burden.
Help them build the Quebec of tomorrow.
