“My Method Actor”, Nilüfer Yanya

Let us insist from the outset on the sound of My Method Actor : a splendor for the ears. The British Nilüfer Yanya and her faithful collaborator Wilma Archer did everything themselves, the recording and the production, indicating in the same breath that the singer-songwriter wanted to strip down her indie rock songs to keep only the timeless essence, these fine melodies, these deep lyrics, the patinated timbre of the performer. This third album is a success, like those that preceded it. At the heart of the album, the sequence of Binding (its discreet soul tones enhanced by vocal harmonies), Mutations, with its more mechanical groove, and Ready for Sun (touch), with its parsimonious violin orchestrations, is expensive. More (bitter-)sweet and precious, Yanya’s art, that of expressing the beauty as much as the pain of our human relationships, shines here. In concert on October 4 at La Tulipe.
