“My life in green”: to thwart the invader

“The Gulps are all green and only have one foot. That didn’t stop them from invading Earth! As true conquerors, these Gulps, arrived in a flying saucer, quickly imposed their dictatorship. Green food that colors the skin of humans, increased surveillance in the streets, freedom is only a distant memory.

However, in this constraining reality, a little girl receives a very small puppy as a birthday present, Zig Zag, who will lead her straight to the house of Mr. Broussaille, a man who hides, behind a large mirror, life as it is. it was before the aliens came. Animals, plants, food live in harmony and allow Broussaille to keep its white complexion.

In My life in green, a series in which we find in particular “Zig Zag” and “Promo gift”, the always very relevant Michel Van Zeveren reveals a society closely watched by these inconvenient occupants. In “Promo gift”, Zeveren pushes the paranoia even further when the TV starts to spy on behavior, to search the corners of the house until the parents lock up “the enemy” in an isolated room.

Under the guise of humor and embroidered with candor, the author of And why ? highlights the resistance of a small clan to an increasingly controlled and controlling world. The characters learn with finesse to thwart the traps of the Gulps. The staging of these little green fellows creates a certain distance between reality and fiction, but remains captivating with lucidity.

Zeveren’s touch, both tender and caricature, defuses the drama on which the story is based. The positivism, wisdom and kindness of the characters can only defeat this invader who lacks the essential, in this case humanity.
