Mutual insurance prices will increase in 2024, with an average increase of 8.1%. Insurers justify this by citing in particular the aging of the population, but also the transfer of costs from health insurance to complementary health insurance.
An appointment with the dentist, hearing aids, changing glasses… These treatments will cost more in 2024, with an increase of 8.1% on average, according to the Federation of Mutual Insurance Companies. The reason for this is the increase in the share of supplementary payments for dental care, an aging population which consults more often and professionals who increase their prices.
A variable increase depending on the contracts
“Our role is to distribute these expenses in the most united way possible. We cannot manage in deficit. We do not have the possibility of smoothing these increases over several years, by transferring these expenses to future generations”, explains Éric Chenut, president of Mutualité Française. This is a record increase for contributions that have already risen sharply in recent years. They increased from 2.6% in 2021 to 4.7% in 2023. The increase should vary depending on the contracts. According to consumer associations, patients should not hesitate to look elsewhere.
