Since last November, director René Simard has been working on the production of a new musical, The Addams Family, based on the cult characters created by the American cartoonist Charles Addams. The show will be on view in Montreal next fall.
However, the director announced Tuesday that he will do open auditions to find the interpreter of Pugsley Addams, the youngest of the family, to complete his distribution. We already know that it is the actress Alexandra Sicard who will play the role of her dark sister, Wednesday. The identities of the parents, Morticia and Gomez Addams, will be revealed soon.
“Anyone who appears to be between 12 and 14 years old and has singing, acting and dancing skills can submit their application according to the procedures detailed on the Facebook page of the show”, explains the production in a press release. “I’m obviously not looking for experienced artists. The voice is very important, but so is the acting and dancing potential,” adds René Simard. Successful candidates will be invited to auditions in Montreal on February 11 and 12, and also in Quebec City on February 17 and 18.
Andrew Lippa’s musical premiered on Broadway in 2009 and subsequently toured. It will be presented in French in a “macabre and completely exploded version of The Addams Family »with choreography by the duo Team White (winners of Revolution 1), under the musical direction of Guillaume St-Laurent.
The Addams Family will be presented at Espace St-Denis in Montreal from October 17, 2023, then at Salle Albert-Rousseau in Quebec City in December 2024.
