Music: Burt Bacharach, legendary songwriter, has died

If certain popular melodies become great classics, it is above all thanks to composers like Burt Bacharach, who died at the age of 94 on Thursday February 9. This passionate jazz pianist, native of Missouri (United States), had been hired just after his military service by Marlene Dietrich to lead her tours. Years later, his romantic and melancholy ballads, on the border between jazz and pop, reached the top of the charts on both sides of the Atlantic.

One of the greatest melodists of the 20th century

Burt Bacharach has made the greatest sing: the Beatles, Tom Jones, Elvis Costello, or even his favorite interpreter Dionne Warwick. At the dawn of the 1970s, the musician with an athletic look and a broad smile also inspired certain French singers. If his detractors put him in the box of artists with easy-to-listen to music, Burt Bacharach was in fact one of the greatest American melodists of the 20th century.
