Jura Museum of Art and History of Cantonal Importance
ART – HISTORY AND TRADITION – PORRENTRUY – SWITZERLAND
In the heart of the old town of Porrentruy, the Hôtel-Dieu Museum is located in a splendid historic building from the 18th century, the former hospital, built in 1765.
Founded in 1949 with the aim of safeguarding the Jura heritage in its artistic and historical aspects, this cantonal museum is included in the Swiss inventory of cultural property of national importance.
The permanent exhibition presents the old pharmacy of the hospital, objects of Gothic and Baroque goldsmithery, a cabinet of prints from the former Bishopric of Basel, a room dedicated to watchmaking, a tool workshop for watchmaker and pierrists, photographic collections, as well as books, coins and other manuscripts relating to the stay of the prince-bishops of Basel in Porrentruy.
Each year, two to three temporary exhibitions explore various themes related to Jura society, history and art.
