Murray withdraws from Queen’s tournament

(Paris) Andy Murray announced on Monday that he had to give up the Queen’s tournament, which is being played this week in London in preparation for Wimbledon, due to an abdominal injury.

“I had a CT scan this afternoon and I have an abdominal injury which is preventing me from being ready for Queen’s this year,” says the Scotsman, 47e worldwide, in a press release issued by the tournament organizers.

Sunday, after losing in the final in Stuttgart for the start of the season on grass against the Italian Matteo Berrettini, Murray admitted to being worried about the state of his abdominals.

“I need to pass exams to learn more,” he said. “I had pain in my abdomen when I was serving (in the second part of the match), it’s never happened to me before,” added the ex-N. 1 in the world, who had delivered his ninth match in two weeks to the final of the German tournament.

Suddenly, Murray said on Monday that he was all the more “disappointed” not to be able to line up at Queen’s, which he won five times (record), that he had “already played good matches on grass” this season.

He should have faced Lorenzo Sonego (32e) this year in the first round. The Italian will finally be opposed to the lucky loser American Denis Kudla (82e).

The Wimbledon tournament, which Murray has won twice (2013 and 2016), begins on June 27.
