Muriel Robin boycotted by French cinema because of her homosexuality? Vincent Dedienne reacts and contradicts her!

In forty years of career, the appearances of
Muriel Robin
at the cinema can be counted on the fingers of one hand. We inevitably remember her in Visitors 2, replacing Valérie Lemercier. We could also see her in On ne chose pas sa famille, a comedy by Christian Clavier in which she played a homosexual woman, or in hollywoo with Florence Foresti and Jamel Debbouze. In recent years, the doors of cinema seem to open to her again, since Muriel Robin appeared in En Corps by Cédric Klapisch, and in The room of wonders with
Alexandra Lamy
.

Guest of Quelle Époque last Saturday September 16, Muriel Robin surprised everyone by openly denouncing the French cinema system, and by affirming that she was a victim of lesbophobia: ”If you are homosexual, you are not desirable, you are not penetrable, and when you are not penetrable in this society, and in cinema, you are worthless! If you are old and ugly, you are no longer penetrated” declared the 68-year-old comedian, married for many years to the actress Anne Le Nen.

Beaugrand and Besnehard applaud, Dedienne kicks into touch

Shocking, upsetting remarks, which, inevitably, quickly caused a reaction on the Web but also in the cinema world. While Amanda Sthers has already announced that she wanted to give a leading role to Muriel Robin for her next film, Dominique Besnehard supported her colleague’s comments by indicating that gay men were also victims of stereotypes: ”It’s even more complicated for boys than for women because of images of virility” estimated the director, who however qualified his remarks by indicating that the film Pédale bleue had ”changed things” thanks to Josiane Balasko and Victoria Abril.

Asked to react to the controversy and the comments of his colleague, Vincent Dedienne did not really support his friend’s comments. The 36-year-old actor and comedian, who has been seen in the cinema in numerous films, such as Parents of Students, Blood Oranges or more recently I Love Greece, will be seen on November 15 in the film Je ne suis not a hero, in which he will play the leading male role, alongside Isabelle Nanty and Géraldine Nakache. Interviewed by RTL this Sunday, September 24, 2023, Vincent Dedienne did not want to get wet…

”Today it’s okay. I don’t feel confronted with homophobia in cinema. I get offered a lot of things, and I tend to have to chase gay roles.” tempered the former Quotidien columnist on TMC. Comments which denote those of Christophe Beaugrand, who, to HuffPost, had affirmed that “many actors keep silent about their sexual preference” in order to be able to pursue their cinematographic career without fear or damage.
