The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) announced Monday that it had arrested a suspect, the day after the murder of a man in his thirties in an alley in Plateau-Mont-Royal.
The suspect, aged 22, was arrested late Sunday evening in the same district, according to the police force. “He is expected to appear at the Montreal courthouse by the end of Monday to be charged with first degree murder. »
In what the SPVM confirmed to be the 10e murder to occur in 2024 on Montreal territory, a 33-year-old man was found lifeless, Sunday morning, in an alley in Plateau-Mont-Royal, near the intersection of avenues du Parc and du Mont-Royal. It was a passerby who alerted the police after making the macabre discovery.
The victim’s body then bore marks of violence which would not have been inflicted by a weapon. According to our information, the victim is Vincent Bibeau Olaecha, a homeless person known to police circles. He had several criminal records, most of them in the context of domestic violence.
When the first patrol officers and paramedics arrived, resuscitation maneuvers were attempted, in vain. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
