On February 11, 2021, Magali Blandin, mother of four, was killed outside her home in Montfort-sur-Meu, not far from Rennes. Her husband, Jérôme Gaillard, with whom she was in the process of separation, admitted to having killed her a few days after the tragedy. He then directed the gendarmes to the wooded area of Boisgervilly, where the lifeless body was found buried under lime. The defense claimed the killer couldn’t bear the thought of divorcing his wife and seeing his family crumble. Then, the culprit killed himself on the night of October 31 to November 1, 2021 by hanging himself from the bars of the window of his cell. A crime he had planned by warning his parents. A failed screenwriter, Jérôme Gaillard had not expected the story he wrote with his wife Magali Blandin to take this turn. Presented by some as manipulative and narcissistic, he had a hard time seeing his wife and mother of his four children – aged 14, 12, 7 and 4 at the time of the events – escape him. But his mother Monique cracks: “in tears, traumatized by the suicide of another of her sons ten years earlier, she gets angry and asks Jérôme to stop his lies.“When the judge asks her why she didn’t try to warn her daughter-in-law of what was going to happen, she replies:”I was unable to sell my son…“The parents of Jérôme Gaillard, Monique, 72, and Jean, 75, were released from their pre-trial detention after the death of their son and placed under judicial supervision.
