Murder of Guylaine Potvin | Suspect allegedly sexually assaulted other victims

(Montreal) The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) believes that the suspect in the murder of student Guylaine Potvin, who was arrested this week more than 22 years after the fact, could have made other victims of sexual assault.

In addition to being suspected of sexually assaulting and murdering the 19-year-old in April 2000, Marc-André Grenon, now 47, has also been arrested and formally charged in connection with the beatings inflicted on three months later, in July, to another student in accommodation in Quebec City. She had survived the attack; a publication ban protects his identity.

However, the Sûreté du Québec reports Friday that its investigation tends to show that Marc-André Grenon could have made other minor or adult victims. The Serial Crime Investigation Management Structure (GECS), coordinated by the SQ, was therefore deployed to pool police resources.

Marc-André Grenon appeared Thursday by videoconference in the districts of Saguenay and Quebec and will remain detained until his return to court next month.

For his actions at the expense of Ms.me Potvin and the alleged victim from Quebec, he was charged with first degree murder, attempted murder, assault and sexual assault.
