Guylaine Potvin was murdered on April 28, 2000 in Jonquière.
He attended the proceedings Monday morning by videoconference, from the Sorel detention center. He appeared on the screen with a mask on his face, and said only two words: “Yes” when the judge asked him if he heard well, and “Hello” at the conclusion of the exchanges.
Monday morning, his lawyer, Mr.e Karine Poliquin of Sherbrooke, indicated that she needed more time to study the file and meet the accused. The next legal step is to know if Grenon will try to recover a provisional release pending a possible trial. “In the Chicoutimi file, he should first ask permission from the Superior Court, because it is a charge of murder,” explained the director of criminal and penal prosecutions, Mr.e Pierre-Alexandre Bernard.
“We have had no indication that such a request will be made at this time,” added Mr.e Bernard. If that were the case, we would obviously strongly oppose his release.”
On the other hand, it is impossible to know if other potential victims of Grenon have come forward to the Sûreté du Québec. The police force had launched an appeal to the general public a few days after the arrest of the individual. back to court on 1er next February.
